There are a few genuine characters in the house music business, charismatic folk who manage to draw us in with each and every move. Whether it be diggin’ holes, chopping wood, or Djing with his young son in tow, there really isn’t much not to like about our next guest. Jus- Ed has been a pioneer of the deep house movement for the last decade, a true believer who has been pivotal in not only pushing the new american deep house sound into Europe and the rest of the world, but also helping kick start the careers of artists like Russia’s Nina Kraviz and Anton Zap . His do-it-yourself Underground Quality label puts out exactly what it professes to – quality underground records from a tight nit family of some of the most talented producers going round, with artists like Levon Vincent, Dj QU and Fred P rounding out Ed’s devastatingly talented crew.
With UQ as his platform, Ed has reached the ears of thousands with his deep, moody, soul filled house and techno, full of raw emotion and his underlying message. Along with his cheeky charisma and incredible knack for selecting records, Jus-Ed brings to the dance floor a presence that simply puts you in a good mood, as serious as his records may seem, its really all about the party. With Ed sky high on our list of ‘must-get’ artists on the podcast, we’re extremely excited to present a mix that show’s exactly why he’s one of the best in the business. After returning from an extensive tour of Europe, we caught up with Ed to find out how it all went down…. Jus-Ed, that is.
You just finished a massive tour over in Europe. Where did you go, who did you see and where did you play?
I hit Manchester/Glasgow/Belgrade/Torina/Berlin/Copenhagen. I have friends in every country… so the list would be too long.. hahahaha. And i made new friends as well…. clubs i played Sub-Club/Tape Club/Havana Club. The rest were underground spots but all were outstanding!
Is Underground Quality taking over there yet?
Well U.Q got it’s leg up in Berlin and Longon and has spread from there… but we’re still comin!
What records were getting the best responses over there?
Tough call but the reocrds i put on the mix are the ones that really made an impact this tour… plus more. I play for the people and for the party. People show up when i play because of my production and my style of playing. So i always play my production and a lot of unreleased stuff as well.. It’s more like a concert for me… because i perform live on the mic. Let’s face it, you have a lot of dope ass dj’s in AUS… and you don’t need just another DJ… that’s why i’m always changing my act!… Keep it fresh and exciting!
If you were to set up shop somewhere in Europe, where would it be?
I Like Offenbach/Torina/Zurich or Sydney.
How much of the tour did you film? Can you make a movie out of it?
Bits and pieces… But you can go to my channel on youtube, search DJJUSED. If i had more time i’m sure a nice movie could be constructed.
When are you coming back down under?
As soon as you guys call! I fell in love with Simon Caldwell and The Mad Rackett Crew… Melbourne was just as dope! I would like to do a 3 week tour down under… You folks know how to live!
